Diaspora Sorrel, Black Text - Unisex t-shirt

Jamaicans and much of the Caribbean know it by sorrel or as red drink. Many West Africans, including Liberians and Ivorians, know it as bissap. In Ghana, it's called Sobolo and in Nigeria, it's called Zobo (or Zoborodo).

A 2018 NPR article notes thousands of narratives from formerly enslaved African-Americans were collected as part of the 1930s Federal Writers' Project. Within those collections are many references to red drinks served as part of celebrations on U.S. plantations during slavery and after Emancipation. Red drink continues to be served at Juneteenth celebrations today.

This African diaspora beverage is most commonly made and brewed from roselle hibiscus and additional spices.
